It appears practically everywhere in many contexts, but do you realize it has a deeper purpose? If you didn\u2019t know its original meaning, don\u2019t feel bad. Today, on World Smile Day, you can change that! In this post, you\u2019ll learn more about this icon, its associated day, and how you can celebrate it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">When the Smiley Face Began<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>In the 1960s, it was a time of political and social unrest. An artist in Worcester created the bright smiley face as symbol of kindness, intending it to encourage people to show compassion to others, in spite of any differences in politics, religion, ethnicity, or socioeconomic status.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">World Smile Day Today<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>In the years following its inception, the smiley face has been used commercially, obscuring its original meaning. However, when World Smile Day became an official commemorative day in 1999, it served as a reminder of the smiley face\u2019s real intent. To celebrate and honor it, perform a kind act for someone in your community and help bring a smile to their face.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">How You Can Share a Smile<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Doing something kind doesn\u2019t have to be a grand gesture. In fact, little actions can have a huge impact on others. In your local area, you have plenty of chances to participate in worthwhile causes that help those in need of an uplifting smile. You can donate to charities or drives through <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ralphavenuedental.com\/\">organizations<\/a> that benefit kids and families in your area. Your generosity and compassion can help make their day happier. As an added bonus, you\u2019ll probably find yourself smiling from the good feeling you get in helping others!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Being Kind to Your Own Smile<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>In addition to showing kindness to other people, now is a good time to consider how kind you are to yourself. If your oral health is suffering, you may not feel confident in sharing your own smile, and you aren\u2019t practicing self-care. To get back on track, you must brush and floss to avoid cavities and infection and protect your teeth and gums. You also need to visit your dentist at least every six months for a checkup and cleaning to keep your teeth strong and healthy.
